Photographing 100 Miles of Colorado Coastline at Curecanti National Recreation Area

Writer: Jonathan TritesJonathan Trites

This week, I'm embarking on a five-day mission to photograph the land surrounding Colorado's largest body of water, the Blue Mesa Reservoir, in Curecanti National Recreation Area.

The area features stunning landscapes and rock formations, and is a prime destination for water-based recreation.

But I'm not just going for fun. These 43,000 acres of land are part of the proposed 400,000 that will be protected by the Colorado Outdoor Recreation & Economy (CORE) Act, a bill by U.S. Senator Michael Bennet and U.S. Congressman Joe Neguse.

The goal of my trip is simple: to take stunning photos of the land to raise awareness for the CORE Act and inspire Coloradans to support this visionary piece of legislation.

I'll set up camp at one of the park's ten campgrounds, then spend the following days exploring the surrounding trails and coastlines, seeking out the most scenic views and trying to find the best light to capture them. Hopefully, I'll get a little cooperation from the snowstorm that's currently passing through.

During my trip, I'll be doing a takeover of the Pass The CORE Act Instagram page, and I'll also be posting updates to my own Instagram account. Give both a follow to keep up with my progress!
